Roland and I are currently at a Howard Johnson Inn along route 70 about 150 miles west of Indianapolis. We begin the home stretch tomorrow. Until then, enjoy these pics and this awesome video below of a duo playing at Pike’s Place Market in Seattle. (sorry i really screwed up the video by holding the camera on it’s side… you’ll see.)

Last night we finally made it to the rockies just in time to see some of them just before the sun went down. This picture was taken at a rest stop along I-70 just as we heading into the heart of the Mountains. We hung out in the LoDo (Lower Downtown) part of Denver last night with a couple of friends of Roland’s, Keith and Stella.
From here on out we extend across Middle America as fast as we can. We are currently cruising through Missouri on our way to St. Louis, hopefully getting us well beyond that by midnight. Then tomorrow is the home stretch to Pittsburgh to hook up with friends from college and then on to Philly the next day to finally reunite with our beloved Kristine. (I Miss You, Baby)

Today we went to Arches National Park to see the natural phenomenon created in the sand rocks there. We then attempted to make our way across the desert on a dirt road which became progressively more rugged and less easy to follow. We finally realized that we could possibly have been wandering aimlessly further and further into the desert and only 40 miles left on the gas tank. After turning back and finally making it back to charted paved roads, we were coasting in neutral at 40 mph with only 6 miles left on the tank and the nearest gas station more than 10. We fortunately made it safely to a station and fueled up, getting on the road 3 hours after our intital departure from the park.

Yosemite National Park was an amazing experience. Soon there will be many more pictures to see, but for now you have this. We drove down into the valley and watched, through binoculars, small spots which represented rock climbers on the face of El Capitan. We then camped just beyond the east entrance to the park at Tioga Pass in a little campground on Ellery Lake in the Seirra Mountains. Elevation 9500 ft. In the morning we awoke to temperatures possibly in the low teens. We then left and drove through miles and miles of desertland on route 50, “The Lonliest Road”. We then ended up in Utah where the terrain had the tendency to look like another planet.

We then drove through some huge forests and saw some of the world’s largest trees, the Coastal Redwoods. One was big enough that a car could drive through it. Then we finally made it to San Francisco.

California, here we come!
We drove down the coast and stopped off to see some of the beach. There was a lone surfer out in the water who left his dog to roam the sand. He took kindly to Roland.

We’re sitting in our room at the Moore Hotel 2 blocks from Pike’s Place Market listening to a conga player down on the street. The whiskey bar on the corner is packed and people are active in the streets tonight. Earlier we had a very nice meal at Kell’s Irish Pub, then spent some time down at the park at Pike’s Place. Our plan is to head back out for a last night on the town before we leave Seattle tomorrow morning for the Red Wood Forest of Northern California.

I’m now sitting on an airplane waiting to leave Salt Lake City, Utah. My flight from Philly had one stop here, just long enough for me to suck down a pint of porter, and then on to SEATTLE! (i hope we get to cruising altitude quickly so i can hit the lav)
More later…

I’m Dave. My brother-in-law, Roland, and I are planning a trip across the United States together, and this site is here for you to see us do it(and to provide a little hobby for at least one of us…).
Bookmark this site and check back from time to time, as we’ll be posting news and photos from the trip as we trek across the country.
